These days I am practicing being mindful- mindful of time and place- the people I am with and what they are saying- paying attention to my children. Some refer to this as being tuned in or connected and lately there is much discussion on staying connected with your children- I am mindful of that- I would always like to be really well connected with my children. Part of mindfulness- for me- is slowing down and being present in the moment.
These days we are really embracing the changes- seasonal and otherwise- all this good food that is so fleetingly here for our enjoyment but for a moment. The rhubarb is done and over- now we are coming into strawberry season- time moves on and with it the short and sweet season of fresh goodies from the earth. The days are so long- like millions before- my children are now aware of the light and complain of going to bed while it is still day time- in a few short days we will be headed the other directions- days getting shorter.
These days I am busy making yogurt- thinking about the old ways my Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers used to do things- thinking a lot about family and continuity. This mindfulness can be tricky- I tend to get caught up and occasionally overwhelmed by it all. The key I think is to tune in, be present and just enjoy the universal gifts- these days are all about just BE-ing!
